Pasta Reale

Pasta Reale or Pasta di Mandorle is a confectionary preparation used to prepare various pastries. It seems this sweet was born near the end of century XI in a monastery connected to the San Giorgio d'Antiochia church in Palermo. It is called "reale" ("royal") since it was meant to be "worthy of a king" because of its goodness and features.
One of the most famous recipes made with the pasta di mandorle is the "frutta martorana": fake fruits made with it which are a real masterpiece of the handmade confectionary in Sicily.
Ingredients: almonds flour, sugar, glucose, food colourings.
